Getting Married? Congratulations!

May it be the start of a blessed journey, full of joys and adventure.  Ameen.

As you begin this journey, one of the documents you would need to sign is your Nikkah Nama (marriage contract).  In Pakistan the Nikkah Nama is a standard document that every couple signs.

The Nikkah Nama is a great tool for couples to think through their expectations of each other before getting married and to protect their rights in marriage. Pakistan's Nikkah Nama is surprisingly a sophisticated and a well designed document but few of us are aware of it's power or use.

It's our recommendation to:

  • Understand for yourself what are the different sections of your Nikkah Nama before your sign it.
  • Know how you can use these sections to set expectations for a good marriage.
  • Add conditions in different sections to protect your rights in marriage or divorce

It maybe a good idea to take this document and discuss things through with your fiancé as you both prepare to you say - Qabool hae, Qabool hae, Qabool hae (I accept, I accept, I accept)!

This maybe a first joint project together as your start your together journey.  God bless!
